PLEASED TO MEET YOU!

A bit about me...

I've been a journalist and writer for over 40 years, working in agency and print media from 1982-1997, and then at the BBC for over 13 years before setting up my own business in 2011.

While I was at the Western Morning News ('89-'97), I was a news reporter and Torquay United correspondent.

In 1990, I wrote the first ever history of Torquay United FC, which I updated as a potted history in a Memory Map in 2015.

I was also in the BBC Devon website team - with Kevin Heathorn and John Govier - that was instrumental in the creation of the Devon flag.

Laura Joint

I write commissioned features and interviews for publications, businesses and organisations.

Among my specialisms is football writing.

I write features for the England Women’s football team’s match programmes, including interviews with star players.

I'm a member of the Sports Journalists' Association and  Women in Football.

There's more about my football writing in the 'Thank you Lionesses' blog.

I work as a freelance writer for a number of charities, arts organisations, health providers, schools, sports bodies, and businesses.

Devon, glorious Devon

I assist organisations with specific media campaigns - clients include Theatre Royal Plymouth (who commissioned me to work with them on their innovative community projects and to profile their creative team at TR2) and the Devon FA, for whom I have written a series of inspiring stories focusing on their girls' talent pathway.

Previously, I helped many people write their life stories and I was commissioned by the BBC to write the history of the BBC in the South West as a Memory Map.

With such a wealth of experience, I'm ideally equipped to help tell others about what you do, by creating articles and press-releases targeted at outlets I already have a healthy relationship with. We'll work together to make sure your story gets everyone talking.

I’m lucky enough to live beside the sea in Plymouth in glorious Devon. A truly inspirational location to foster creativity.

Don't take my word for it...

Here's what others say about my work:

John Lilley
Former Head of BBC Southwest

"Laura is a first rate journalist who moved seamlessly from print journalism into broadcast media and then producing articles for the BBC Devon website.

"Her attention to detail is first rate, and she demonstrated an acute awareness of the needs and interests of her audience/reader.

"I regarded her as a key member of the team."

Colin Davison
Former Editor, Western Morning News

"Laura was one of the most diligent and capable journalists of a highly talented team on this leading regional newspaper.

"It was a pleasure to have her on the staff, as she could be relied upon for accuracy and thoroughness, a sympathetic approach, charm and determination to get things done - even when her duties included reporting on the male-dominated world of football."

Anita Frier
Principal, Stoke Damerel Community College

"Thank you for all the fantastic articles that you have pulled together and worked diligently on over the past few years.

"You have captured many important events and kept an eye on our social media, making sure it was up to date.

"You have certainly contributed to raising the profile of our school positively."
